militantgeek: More win. Also guilt tripping me about being on the internet right now.

I got off the plane yesterday and Dani took me directly to the beach. Since then I have been to a swimming pool and a hotspring, and also hung out with nuns. These are, it seems, the central ways to amuse oneself in the greater Orlando area. I hear rumors that there are also "amusement parks" in this city, but I am pretty sure they are not as much fun as hanging out with nuns is.

Dani reminds me that I also saw a manatee and touched a palm tree. And surfackers! [The broader internet tells me that what we saw was "surf kayaking", but Dani and I choose to disagree. Why use two words when you can coin a portmanteau?]

In other news, April is definitely the hottest month on the hot priest calendar. There was much rejoicing when they turned the page today.

Addendum: Neither of us is Catholic. The nuns Dani works for do a whole lot of cigarette-smoking, drinking, and swearing for nuns. (Yesterday Dani had to reassure me that it was ok to wear my pro-evolution t-shirt into the Catholic aid center yesterday. It cracked the nuns up.)

Addendum 2: Dani needs to learn how to hug people. Stat.

My plentiful previous experience with palm trees doesn't make showing them off less exciting to Dani. I am going along with it. It makes things funner than reminding her all the time that I live in another state that supports them.

Ack, we have hit upon the danger of me writing comments on my phone--sorry, that comment sounded really patronizing. :(

I know you're being silly, and I'm being silly back, and I find it hilarious. Maybe I'll touch more palm trees today. Unless I get eaten by an alligator or mauled by a surfacker first.

One of the things that made my whole family quite fed up with our local Catholic churches, when I was a teenager, was that my parents had to explain to their adult bible study group at church that the Roman Catholic Church had accepted evolution since the 1960s, and had even accepted big bang theory. Their classmates did not want to believe them.

Farm Catholics are incredibly ill-trained in their own faith. I'm glad your nuns are more fun than that. What order are they?

They're the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. They are awesome.

I didn't know until Dani told me that the official state of the Catholic church is belief in evolution.

It is such an under-publicized fact! If everybody took World Religions in high school we would know this sort of thing. If I hadn't, I would have had no idea about the Catholic Church supporting evolution.
