Personal journal as short story finder
Ok, friends, I am putting my faith in you. I am trying to remember the author (and titles) of a series of short stories that were published in Analog in roughly the 1998-2001ish time frame. I think I read three or four of them, published at the rate of approximately one story a year.
Plot: scientist invents cat that never ages beyond being a kitten. Never-ending kitten-itude leads to constant learning at a high rate leads to hyperintelligent kittens leads to MURDER.
Any pointers?

prismakaos provided jogged my memory about the titles enough that I was able to find it! Jeffrey D. Kooistra's Kittens series includes "Puff" [Analog, December 1993], "Fluffy" [Analog, June 1996], and "Snowball" [Analog, July 1996].

Having read this series in early high school means that I am much less comfortable than most with the concept of eternal kittens. It... really stuck around in my head.

But I've found the kittens and their author, at least. [post updated with the answer]
