I just realized: I spent most of today in Alameda for the Oakland/East Bay Pride Concert. Alameda, is as you may know, across the Bay, where the Nuclear Wessels were in 1986.

Tomorrow I'm going down to Monterey for the day to go to the Aquarium for diadem_chi's birthday. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is where they filmed all the "Cetacean Institute" scenes in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

WHY AM I RELIVING ST IV THIS WEEKEND, FLIST? WILL THERE BE ALIENS TOMORROW? I HOPE THERE WILL BE?

I love you, because yes, I still hear Alameda and immediately think about the Nuclear Wessels.

To be fair, you live far enough away that Alameda probably doesn't have any other context for you.

But really, it was all I could do to keep from repeating "Across the Bay, in Alameda" every time this concert came up.

"Where's the concert?"

"At the First Congregational Church of--across the bay. In Alameda."
