Pastorale
In twelve hours I will be at my parents' house. Tomorrow morning I will wake up in my sister's room (it stopped being mine when I graduated from high school, but it's still solidly hers) to the view I grew up waking up to--the madrone tree leaning against the porch, the moss-covered boulders fading into greenbelt cliff.
I've been so narrowly focused in the last few months--things to get done, people to take care of, goals to accomplish. I am SO READY to stop for a few days. And the bright green moss of midwinter might be just what I need to do it.
I'm listening to my sentimental "home" mix on iTunes right now--Joni Mitchell's "California", Willie Nelson's "Mendocino County Line", REM's "I Remember California", etc. (IRONICALLY NOLAUREL HOLLY NEAR OR BONNIE RAITT HA HA HA) (ironic mistake in initial post is ironic))
I am so ready to see the stars at night, even if it's only for a few days.
(Now if only I could find the charger for my camera battery, I am feeling quite tragic without power.)

I am also in the room-which-is-no-longer-mine right now! All the nature around your parents' house sounds lovely. :D

And yeah, I grew up with a LOT of nature. We're in what I considered REALLY SUBURBAN when we moved there and started having a paved road, etc, but we're back up against a steep hill and there's a creek that runs between the road and my parents' house, so we're protected from the outside world on all sides. (This was very handy for planning defense against the Dead all the times I re-read Sabriel in the wee hours of the morning and got paranoid.)
