Yeah. As nextian said upthread, there's a good chance that a decent fraction of the new accounts were Open ID accounts autocreated when people ran the LJ importer, but still, it's exciting.

Makes me wonder what the spike was on Aug 1st. I know there's an annual bump around the anniversary of open beta, but I can't figure that one out. I wouldn't expect there to be a monthly bump on the 1st on account of the open beta anniversary. Did something happen a month ago?

In the thread on dw_news, they're speculating that the August 1 bump was caused by one or two LJ importer script runs that generated a massive amount of new OpenID accounts.

There wasn't an equivalent bump in June or July.
