The first 32 hours or so of my period was hellish for the 42 years I had periods.

I informed my teachers/colleagues/cow-orkers that
a) On a knowable date, I would be unwell;
b) three days prior, I would begin a phase of exceptional creativity.
c) No further discussion possible.

So, that is a possibility as well.
