Oh, interesting. From your description it sounds like you track a progression -- someone you meet via fandom becomes a fandom friend, and then may over time become a RL friend. Whereas I generally use the term "fandom friend" to describe any friendship with someone who is fannish and who I interact with in a fannish context, which means that the vast majority of my friendships are of both the "RL" and "fandom" variety.

So, f'rinstance, I consider [personal profile] yarngeek and [personal profile] oliviacirce to be "fandom friends" because our friendships started through fandom and we regularly track one another's fandoms, rec each other new fandoms, etc. But they're also the two people I depend on most for sorting through RL issues. It's further complicated by the fact that any given communication I have with my close fannish friends tends to blur back and forth between discussion of RL and fandom without a clear dividing line between the two, and that we often use fandom frames in our discussion of RL issues.
