OMG Cryoburn.
Lots and lots of life stuff has been happening, but:
Damnit, I really, really didn't want to be right about that one. I am crying right now. Crying into my tasty tasty toast.
I mean, I guess she had to do both deaths in the book for Jim Baen's death, but wow was that ending a punch to the gut. And she just drops it there, because she's Lois Fucking Bujold and that is how she plays it. What Jo Walton spear theory what? [I was afraid that reading the ebook would make me think it was fic, and then she went ahead and ended the book with linked drabbles which DID NOT HELP THANK YOU.]
On the other hand, OMG MARK MARK MARK MARK MARK. Everything is awesome when there is Mark. I would read the series even more frequently than I already do if it was just Miles and Mark bantering all the damn time.
Key moments of my Mark obsession being fed:
"Good intentions, Mark. My path was paved with them."
"So glad I don't have any of those."
"On the other hand, if it proved sufficiently profitable, maybe I could hire my own space mercs and attack the Jacksonian cloning lords directly."
Miles grimaced. "Do you remember the last time you tried that?"
"Vividly. Don't you?
"Patchily."
And Kareen! KAREEEN. Bottom line, I was enjoying the book a reasonable amount and then Mark and Kareen showed up and I got hyperactive.
Things I should probably not admit: there were a couple of stretches in there where I thought I was in the ADS universe and Miles thought things about Gregor and I cooed and then I remembered he was married to Ekaterin. Whoops. But, the rod up Gregor's ass pose! But, whoops!
